Privacy Policy
How e-Bharat Technology Services handles the information you give us, and the information the directory records as you use it.
Last updated: 11 October 2026
The short version
We keep what is needed to show listings and to connect a customer to a shop. We do not sell anything to advertisers, and there are no advertising or analytics trackers on this site.
The one thing to know before you tap. When you are signed in and you reveal a shop’s phone number, WhatsApp, email or address, or send an enquiry, that shop is told your name and your mobile number. That is the point of the directory — it is how a shopkeeper knows who to call back — but it should not come as a surprise. If you do not want a shop to have your number, do not reveal their contact details while signed in.
Who this is about
e-Bharat Technology Services operates the e-Bharat business directory for Shirpur, Maharashtra, as a website and an Android application. In this policy “we” means e-Bharat Technology Services and “you” means anyone who uses either of them.
What we collect
When you create an account.
- Your name, and your mobile number.
- An email address, for business and staff accounts, which is also what you sign in with.
- A password or a PIN. Both are stored as a one-way hash; we cannot read either of them, and neither can anyone with access to the database.
- A profile photo, if you add one.
When you list a business.
- The shop's name, category, description, address and map location.
- Opening hours, services, payment methods, amenities and trade details such as year established.
- Photos and videos you upload. Location data embedded in photos by your camera is stripped before the file is stored.
- Contact numbers, WhatsApp, email, website and social media links.
- Verification documents — Shop Act, GST, Udyam registration or a utility bill — if you ask for a verified badge.
As you use the directory.
- Which pages and listings were opened, and what was searched for.
- Which contact details were revealed, and by whom.
- Reviews, ratings, enquiries, saved shops, saved jobs and job applications.
- Your approximate location, only if you grant permission. It is used to sort listings by distance and is not stored as a history of where you have been.
Why we collect it
- To show listings and sort them by how near they are to you.
- To let a customer reach a shop, and to tell the shop who is trying to reach them.
- To check that a business is real before giving it a verified badge.
- To send one-time codes by SMS when you sign in, sign up, or reset a password.
- To take payment for plans and adverts, and to issue a receipt.
- To keep a record of what staff did — approvals, blocks, refunds, account changes — so that decisions can be accounted for afterwards.
- To find and stop misuse: fake listings, fake reviews, and abuse of the code-sending endpoints.
What other people can see
Anyone, signed in or not: a listing’s name, category, description, photos, hours, services, amenities, area and map location, its rating and its reviews, including the reviewer’s name.
Only after you sign in: full phone numbers, WhatsApp and email. They are masked otherwise, which is a deliberate barrier against numbers being scraped in bulk.
The shop owner: your name and mobile number when you reveal their contact details or send an enquiry, and the full text of any enquiry you send.
Never public: verification documents. Those are stored outside the public media area and are served only to the business owner and to our staff, with permission checked on every request.
Who else your information reaches
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s advertising. Three services are involved in running the site:
- MSG91 — delivers one-time codes by SMS. They receive the mobile number and the code.
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) — turns map coordinates into a place name. It receives the coordinates, not your identity.
- Amazon Web Services — hosts the servers and the database, in their India region.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect the safety of people using the directory.
Cookies and what is stored on your device
We use no advertising cookies and no third-party analytics. The site keeps your sign-in token, your chosen language and your chosen location in your browser’s own storage so that you are not signed out and asked again on every visit. The Android application keeps the sign-in token in the phone’s secure keystore.
How long we keep it
- Account and listing information: while the account exists.
- One-time codes: a few minutes, then deleted automatically.
- Sign-in sessions: until you sign out, or until a password change, which ends every session on the account.
- Verification documents: while the listing is verified, so that the badge can be accounted for.
- Staff action records: kept as a history, because their purpose is to be looked back on.
Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you may ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted. You can change most of it yourself from your profile and your dashboard. For the rest, write to support@ebharat.info.
Deleting your account removes your profile, your listings and your uploaded files. Reviews you wrote may remain with your name removed, so that a shop’s rating does not change retrospectively. Records of staff actions are kept, because they are the account of how a decision was made.
Keeping it safe
Passwords and PINs are stored as one-way hashes. The site is served over HTTPS. Verification documents are held outside the public media area. Code-sending and sign-in attempts are rate limited. Staff accounts can only reach the parts of the dashboard they have been given, and what they do is recorded.
No system is perfectly secure. If something goes wrong that affects your information, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board as the law requires.
Children
The directory is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them. If you believe a child has an account here, write to us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how your information is used, we will say so on the site rather than rely on you re-reading this page.
